This is project 10 from Drawing for Dummies.

I’m continuing the progress on Chapter 10’s project. I’ve now put in the basic shading and turned this into a thumbnail sketch.

A thumbnail sketch of the lobster trap.

This is project 7 from Drawing for Dummies.

Chapter 7 introduces hatching and cross hatching. It took me a couple of tries to get the graduations looking reasonable. This is the first drawing where my wife looked over and said “Wow! You’re getting better!”

I know why I like this book so much better now. It introduces the techniques that give more bang for the buck earlier. This gives quicker progress and more satisfaction.

I like the mug. I’m still not as happy with the line drawing as I would like to be. The perspective looks off… But I’d say it’s still my best still life drawing yet.

This is my fourth drawing from Drawing for Dummies.

I’m much more interested in this project. It’s not the subject that created so much interest, but the techniques. How to add highlights and shadow to suggest a 3-dimensional object. The shading will take more practice (doesn’t everything). I’m not as good at gradients with the pencil as I’d like to be. I’m still fairly happy with the results as I can definitely see the shape of the sphere.
