Drawing

This is my third drawing from Drawing for Dummies.

This drawing is much harder for me. I guess it’s just a part that I’m not very interested in. Line drawings are what drove me away from Complete Idiots Guide to Drawing. I realize I will need to improve my line drawings in order to advance but I just don’t have the drive to do them at the moment. I would much rather be writing or coding or something than doing a line drawing. Especially hands. I don’t like the way the hands came out at all in this drawing. My wife tells me that if I don’t like it, I should just erase it and do it over again. I drew the hands three times. It finally came out to something close to proportional, but…. I’m going to push on and continue with some figure drawing after I finish these two books.

I realize that this is two drawing posts in a row. I need to work on another writing project of mine at the moment.

This is my second drawing from Drawing for Dummies.

This was harder than the first one. I need to spend some more time practicing circles. In this exercise, you get to use charcoal to do the pupil of the eye. It’s a very different texture, but kind of messy. I found I was constantly smudging the dust from the charcoal. Maybe I’m missing some technique to clean up after using it?

I’ve been looking at Drawing for Dummies lately and thought I’d give it a try. I borrowed it from the library and here’s the first exercise from chapter 1.

It was cute, and the techniques were easy. The exercise was very clearly and accurately written.
